County of San Mateo’s Swearing-In Ceremony and Reorganization of the Board of Supervisors Event

The first Board of Supervisors meeting of the year drew many attendees to County Center in Redwood City to witness and support the swearing-in ceremony of District 1 Supervisor Jackie Speier and District 4 Supervisor Lisa Gauthier.

Supervisor Speier previously served on the Board of Supervisors from 1980 to 1986 before continuing her career in the California State Assembly, State Senate, and U.S. Congress.

Before joining the Board, Supervisor Gauthier served on East Palo Alto’s City Council and held the position of mayor for three terms.

The meeting also included the reorganization of the Board, with Supervisor David Canepa selected as President and Supervisor Noelia Corzo as Vice President.

Biocom California’s Global Economic Outlook with Deloitte's Chief Global Economist, Dr. Ira Kalish 

Guests gathered at the Omni San Francisco Hotel in San Francisco to hear a conversation between Biocom California's President Emeritus Joe Panetta and Deloitte’s Chief Global Economist, Dr. Ira Kalish, on the economic outlook and trends of 2025.

Dr. Kalish provided his take on the global economy & labor markets, anticipated federal policies, and the challenges and opportunities in the life sciences & technology business sectors.

County of San Mateo’s
County + Stakeholder Federal Priorities Event

The County of San Mateo hosted the County + Stakeholder Federal Priorities event at the San Mateo County Event Center in San Mateo, convening local elected officials and civic & community leaders to discuss the potential impacts of the upcoming changes in state and federal policies.

The event featured fireside chats with federal and state lobbyists, who shared their views on upcoming opportunities and challenges, as well as presentations from the following organizations, offering an overview of their services and key areas of concern.

In addition, San Mateo County Office of Education’s Superintendent Nancy Magee shared her views on the education landscape.

The event fostered open dialogue while identifying San Mateo County’s priorities, followed by stakeholders developing actionable strategies and recommendations.

SAMCEDA’s President & CEO, Rosanne Foust, moderated the event for the County of San Mateo.

Kaiser Permanente & Hands On Bay Area’s
MLK Jr. Day of Service

SAMCEDA joined Kaiser Permanente & Hands On Bay Area by volunteering at their
MLK Jr. Day of Service event at Garden Village Elementary in Daly City. 

Volunteers spent their time adding their own original artwork to the school's
ocean-themed mural and refreshing the campus with a vibrant new coat of paint on fences, tables, and blacktop games.

W.L. Butler’s Peninsula Investment Forum

W.L. Butler hosted the Peninsula Investment Forum event at their headquarters in Redwood City. 

Developers, community leaders, and elected officials came together to gain insights into the current state of the real estate and financial markets, delivered by Luis Belmonte, Partner at Seven Hills Properties.

Burlingame/SFO Chamber of Commerce’s
2025 Annual Meeting & Luncheon

The Burlingame/SFO Chamber of Commerce hosted their 2025 Annual Meeting & Luncheon at Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport in Burlingame.

The event reflected on the Chamber’s updates and highlights, followed with City of Burlingame’s City Manager Lisa Goldman moderating a fireside chat with Mayor Peter Stevenson, County of San Mateo’s President Supervisor David Canepa, and Assemblymember Diane Papan's District Director, Dave Burruto.

The event concluded with a keynote address on AI by Vanessa Parli, Director of Research at Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s
CZI Community Space Open House

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative hosted an Open House event at their CZI Community Space in Redwood City to celebrate the upcoming update to their meeting and event facility. 

In February 2025, the CZI Community Space is broadening its membership criteria to include organizations located in Oakland or San Francisco (that provide programming in San Mateo County). Eligible organizations will be able to host approved community events, meetings, and gatherings at the space free of charge.

The venue holds two conference rooms + one large main event space and can be reserved by CZI Community Space members.

Chamber San Mateo County’s Good Morning San Mateo County with Assemblymember Diane Papan and Supervisor Lisa Gauthier Virtual Event

In the first Good Morning San Mateo County webinar of the year, Chamber San Mateo County members heard from Assemblymember Diane Papan, newly elected Supervisor Lisa Gauthier, and SAMCEDA’s Rosanne Foust, who moderated the virtual event. 

Assemblymember Papan provided a report with the latest State of California & Assembly District 21 updates and priorities for the upcoming new year.

Supervisor Gauthier expressed her enthusiasm for her new role with the County and eagerness to work for her District 4 constituents on a variety of issues.
