Build Up San Mateo County’s Advisory Meeting and Special Dinner Celebrating Hon. Supervisor Dave Pine  

At a special advisory meeting, Build Up San Mateo County hosted a dinner celebration honoring Build Up’s Co-Chair, Hon. Supervisor Dave Pine at Angelicas in Redwood City.

Many attendees delivered heartfelt speeches expressing their gratitude to Hon. Supervisor Pine for his dedicated efforts in supporting child care initiatives in San Mateo County.

Crown Castle’s RAPID Connect Demo Event 

Crown Castle held a demonstration of their Rapid Connect technology for elected officials, government agencies, and key community partners as part of a pilot project in a residential neighborhood in Milpitas.

Rapid Connect is a fast, shallow, and minimally invasive broadband deployment method for installing fiber optics in local communities. It uses a small moving crew and safety vehicles to simultaneously cut, place, and seal underground fiber without shutting down traffic quickly with minimal disruption and construction waste.

The adoption of Rapid 2.0 is crucial for bringing faster, more reliable connectivity to the community, helping bridge the digital divide, and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth, education, and public safety.

Thrive Alliance, Nuestra Casa, Climate Resilient Communities, and Rise South City’s Climate Summit for San Mateo County

Thrive Alliance, Nuestra Casa, Climate Resilient Communities, and Rise South City held their third annual Climate Summit for San Mateo County event at the South San Francisco Conference Center in South San Francisco.

The summit underscored the needs and perspectives of underrepresented communities facing the effects of climate change.

Redwood City Library Foundation’s
3rd Annual Upscale Pub Crawl

In recognition of Banned Books Week, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read, the Redwood City Library Foundation held its 3rd Annual Upscale Pub Crawl in Redwood City.

Participants began at the Downtown Library and then made their way to the local participating restaurants and pubs, where they enjoyed delicious libations. Each location prominently showcased two banned books, inviting guests to engage with thought-provoking literature.

HEART of San Mateo County’s 2024 Annual Networking and Fundraising Event

Housing advocates, elected officials, and community leaders gathered to attend HEART of San Mateo County’s 2024 Annual Networking and Fundraising Event at Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company in San Carlos.

This event highlighted HEART’s latest programs and initiatives, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs in the community.

Working Partnership USA’s High Road Funders Briefing Event

Working Partnership USA, alongside the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, and the Sierra Health Foundation, hosted the High Road Funders Briefing event at CreatTV in San Jose. 

Working Partnership USA’s CEO, Maria Noel Fernandez, SAMCEDA’s President & CEO, Rosanne Foust, and SOMOS Mayfair’s Victor Duarte-Vasquez facilitated the event which featured two rounds of interactive discussions on: Artists and Cultural Workers, Childcare and Early Childhood Education Providers, Green Buildings Workforce, High Road Manufacturing, Home Health Care, Small Businesses and Micro Entrepreneurs, and Worker-Owned Co-Ops.

This event directly connects philanthropic partners with emerging, community-focused sector partnerships formed through the South Bay and Peninsula High Road Roundtable (co-convened by SAMCEDA, the San Mateo County Labor Council, the South Bay Labor Council, SOMOS Mayfair, and Working Partnership USA).

Through the 18-month High Road Roundtable initiative, over 400 stakeholders from labor, community, business, education, environmental, and local government sectors across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties convened to re-envision regional economic development planning to develop a pilot program of high road jobs.

College of San Mateo’s Grand Opening of Coastside Campus in Half Moon Bay

Community members and leaders from the San Mateo County Community College District came together to inaugurate the new Coastside campus in Half Moon Bay.

The new educational facility offers students on the coast convenient access to essential educational programs and career training.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s
Equity in Action: Progress and Possibilities 

Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) hosted an event to showcase the progress and ongoing work Equity Forward is doing to close the racial wealth gap in Silicon Valley at their SVCF headquarters in Mountain View.

KQED’s KQED Fest 2024

Thousands of people from all over the Bay Area and beyond gathered to attend KQED Fest 2024 at KQED’s headquarters in San Francisco.

The festive block party and open house event featured behind-the-scenes tours of the public media station, fireside chats, family-friendly activities, and more.

Sustainable San Mateo County’s
2024 Indicators Report: EV Charging Infrastructure

Sustainable San Mateo County debuted their latest 2024 Indicators Report: Equitable Paths to EV Charging and discussed their findings at the Sobrato Centers for Nonprofits' Redwood Shores Center location.

It was followed by a panel featuring experts addressing the challenges of meeting EV charging demand in a way that is both equitable and efficient.

Chancellor's Circle - Connecting Philanthropy, Education & Community

The San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation hosted the Chancellor's Circle - Connecting Philanthropy, Education & Community, at The Farallon Room at Skyline College in San Bruno.

Chancellor Melissa Moreno of the San Mateo County Community College District shared her unique career journey and vision for innovative collaborations aimed at empowering students and strengthening the local workforce.

Chancellor Moreno was joined by Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s President and CEO, Nicole Taylor, who provided opening remarks, and SAMCEDA’s President & CEO, Rosanne Foust, led the Q&A session.
