In June SAMCEDA will be holding its Annual Meeting, marking the inaugural celebration of its 6oth anniversary. San Mateo County was a different place in 1953 when David D. Bohannon, Carl F. Cunningham, Murray Draper, Charles K. Elder, James E. Fitzgerald and Charles H. Reifenrath signed the Articles of Incorporation for the San Mateo County Development Association (the word Economic was added later to the name).
In the Articles the following is stated as the purpose of the corporation…
“To strive and labor toward, to further and promote, a balanced economic growth of San Mateo County. To develop cooperation and a unified action in commercial, industrial, civic and cultural fields in San Mateo County particularly and the San Francisco Bay generally. To promote the general welfare of the area.”
Sixty years later the message and the purpose still hold true. The Annual Meeting will highlight a few key initiatives of the past (more to follow over the next 12 months) while also showcasing its latest research effort “Labor Supply and Commute Patterns in San Mateo County.” This research will analyze the labor supply in San Mateo County and how it compares with other counties in the Bay Area, illustrating our strengths and providing opportunities in matching our residents skill sets with the jobs available.
We hope you will join us to hear more about SAMCEDA’s past as well as its future. By working together with our members, partners, stakeholders and communities we strengthen the economic foundation of San Mateo County and its influence in the greater Bay Area.
